75 is a good balance for photos. Lower means smaller files. Applies to JPG, WebP, and AVIF.
Longest side. Phone photos are often 4000 px or more, and resizing saves the most.
Frequently asked questions
- Is this image compressor really free?
- Yes. No sign-up, no watermark, and no limit on how many images or how large they are, within what your device can handle.
- Are my images uploaded?
- No. Every image is compressed by your own browser, on your device. Your photos are never sent to a server, which also makes batches fast.
- How do I make an image smaller than 100 KB (or any size)?
- Choose "To a file size" and enter the limit. The tool finds the highest quality that fits, and only shrinks the image's dimensions if it can't fit otherwise.
- How do I convert HEIC to JPG?
- Drop your iPhone photos in. With "Same as original" selected, HEIC photos come out as JPG, which every app and website accepts. You can pick WebP or PNG instead.
- Which format should I use?
- JPG for photos you'll send or upload anywhere. WebP is smaller and works in modern browsers and apps. AVIF is the smallest but slower to create. PNG for screenshots, logos, and images with transparency.
- Will my photos lose quality?
- At the default quality the difference is very hard to see, while files are often 50–80% smaller, especially when you also resize. Use "Hold to see original" to compare before downloading.
- Does it remove photo location and camera data?
- Compressed images don't keep the original's metadata (EXIF), such as GPS location and camera details. The photo's orientation is applied first, so nothing ends up sideways. If a file is already smaller than anything we can make, you get your original back unchanged (metadata included), and the list says so.
